Lala Curio
Founded in Hong Kong in 2014 by designer Laura Cheung Wolf, Lala Curio reinvents centuries-old Chinese artisanship for contemporary interiors. Rooted in three generations of family expertise in imperial decorative crafts, the studio specialises in hand-painted silk wallpaper using the traditional gong-bi technique — a meticulous 18th-century painting method — brought to life with a playful, whimsical sensibility.
Each design starts as a hand-painted panorama on Chinese or Thai silk, often finished with hand-embroidered embellishments or thousands of individually stitched pearls that catch the light with genuine three-dimensionality. Motifs range from Chinoiserie flora-and-fauna scenes to more abstract, contemporary compositions — always bespoke, always made to the dimensions of the room it's designed for.
Lala Curio's work has been featured in Elle Décor, Harper's Bazaar, and Tatler, with showrooms spanning Hong Kong, London, Paris, Istanbul, Los Angeles — and Bangkok, through Pinpina.
— ancient artisanship, reimagined for the modern wall.
