Marimekko
Founded in Helsinki in 1951 by Viljo and Armi Ratia, Marimekko ("little dress for Mari") began life as a textile fashion house before growing into one of the most recognisable design identities to come out of Scandinavia. Armi Ratia gathered a circle of young, independent-minded artists — most famously Maija Isola, whose 1964 poppy print Unikko was created in quiet defiance of the founder's own "no florals" rule, and went on to become Marimekko's most iconic pattern of all time.
Bold graphic shapes, oversized scale, and fearless colour define the Marimekko wallpaper collection — abstract forms and nature-inspired motifs, each with its own story, each unmistakably Finnish. Printed on easy-to-hang non-woven paper, the collection carries the same free-spirited, optimistic outlook that has defined the brand for over seventy years.
— bold Finnish spirit, since 1951.
