Inverted Spaces

Andromeda

SKU: CAL-1401

A collaboration with Amsterdam’s BCXSY concept design studio, Inverted Spaces transforms NASA satellite imagery into a series of constellational portraits.

Calico Wallpaper and BCXSY’s shared interest in explorations of space—both interior and beyond—led to the discovery of NASA’s immense library of breathtaking satellite imagery. We combined our talents to transpose a selection of these images, creating a series of imagined environments that offer an abstracted view of the universe. Enlisting the help of a matte-painting studio (who typically create cinematic fantasy worlds for Hollywood films), we were able to scale and enlarge the imagery while retaining the quality of the originals. The result is a six pattern celestial collection that is at once playful and profound.

Inverted Spaces explores the beauty of the infinite expansion of the universe. Gazing up at the distant light of the planets and stars, we see that we are but a speck in a stunning sky.

Calico

Some wallpapers define a room. Calico Wallpaper transforms how it feels.

Created by Rachel and Nick Cope, the New York design studio is celebrated for its bespoke murals that merge traditional craftsmanship with contemporary art. Each design begins as a handmade experiment—drawing from centuries-old marbling techniques, flowing pigments, and natural textures—before being enlarged into immersive wallcoverings that surround a space with movement, light, and atmosphere.

Rather than repeating patterns, Calico creates environments that unfold like paintings, inviting quiet contemplation and a deeper connection to the space. The result is wallpaper that feels less like decoration and more like an emotional landscape.
